The Pheidole rhea, commonly known as the Giant Rugose Big headed Ant, is a true titan of the genus. While most Pheidole are known for being small, P. rhea shatters that mold, it is arguably the largest Pheidole species in the world. They are unique for being trimorphic, meaning they don’t just have minors and majors, but also massive “Super Majors” that can rival the size of a queen. Native to the arid foothills of the Southwestern US and Mexico, they are a high speed, high power species that acts like a desert dwelling army.
