The Camponotus lateralis is a clever little ant that often leaves people doing a double take. In the wild, they look and act almost exactly like the Crematogaster scutellaris (the Acrobat Ant) to piggyback off their tough reputation. They have a beautiful deep red head and a shiny black body, but unlike other “giant” Carpenter ants, they stay quite small and compact. They are the perfect choice for keepers who love the look of a red and black ant but want a species that is peaceful, calm, and doesn’t require a massive amount of space.
