The Pheidole indica, commonly known as the Indian Big-headed Ant, is a dynamic and prolific species native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia. It is a favorite among keepers for its in-nest mating (inbreeding) capability, which allows colonies to produce new queens internally and grow at an explosive, almost exponential rate. While visually similar to P. noda, P. indica is slightly more compact but just as aggressive, often forming massive “super-colonies” that can reach up to 50,000 workers in captivity.
