The Colobopsis truncata, or the “Door head Ant,” is hands down one of the most unique species you can keep. They are nature’s ultimate interior designers, living almost exclusively in dry wood or hollow twigs. What makes them truly special is the “Major” workers and the queen; they have a strangely flattened, plug shaped head. In the wild, they use their heads as a literal living door to block the entrance of their nest, keeping out unwanted visitors. It is a slow-growing, peaceful species that is absolutely perfect for keepers who love watching specialized evolution up close in a small, manageable setup.
