The Lasius flavus, often called the Yellow Meadow Ant, is the shy, golden treasure of the ant world. Unlike their cousins who roam your kitchen counters, these ants are underground specialists that spend their lives building tunnels in the soil. They have a beautiful, bright yellow to amber color that really pops against a dark substrate. Because they are more timid and less “explorative” than other species, they are incredibly peaceful to observe, making them a perfect choice for keepers who prefer a calm, low stress colony that focuses on internal nest life.
