The Messor orientalis, commonly known as the Oriental Harvester Ant, is a resilient and prolific species from the Messor structor group. Native to the crossroads of Europe and Asia, it is a favorite for keepers who want a harvester species that is significantly easier to maintain than the popular Messor barbarus. They are famously adaptable, showing high activity even in cooler seasons, and are known for their distinct “caldera shaped” nest entrances in the wild.
