The Messor hebraeus, commonly known as the Levantine Harvester Ant, is a stunning and industrious species native to the Eastern Mediterranean. While it shares many behaviors with the common Messor barbarus, it is prized by keepers for its distinct “stained” appearance—a beautiful blend of deep blacks and warm mahogany-red or orange tones, particularly on the heads of the larger majors. They are the primary harvesters of the Levant, built to survive the rocky, sun-drenched hills of the Middle East.
