The Messor arenarius, known as the Giant Dune Harvester Ant or simply the Sand Harvester, is a legendary species from the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East. It is widely considered the second largest Messor species in the world, surpassed only by the African M. cephalotes. Unlike many of its cousins that prefer grasslands, M. arenarius is a true specialist of the sandy dunes and arid steppes. They are prized for their matte jet-black finish, their elegant, long legged appearance, and their incredible super majors.
