The Polyrhachis bicolor, fittingly known as the Two-toned Spiny Ant, is the perfect “fashion statement” of the ant world. While many Polyrhachis are monochromatic black or silver, Bicolor sports a stunning contrast: a deep, matte black head and abdomen paired with a vibrant, fiery orange / red thorax and legs. They are a smaller, more delicate looking species, but don’t let that fool you. they are incredibly active and possess the same sharp, defensive spines that make this genus so iconic.
